Police asking for information in unsolved mother, son homicide

On December 29, 2020, Shaquilla Watts, 21, and her son Zay’vion Watts, 5, were found shot to death in their home at 201 Wynn Street Apartment A.

Officers with the Hot Springs Police Department found the deceased when responding to a welfare check around 1:25 p.m. December 29, 2020, was a Tuesday, but HSPD Public Information Officer Cpl. Jjesus Anaya said they believe the crime occurred on Sunday, December 27, 2020.

As the one year anniversary of the heinous crime approaches, an arrest has yet to be made in what is considered to be the result of a homicide. HSPD has now put a call out for help from the public in gathering information on the case.

"The investigation is still ongoing and detectives are continuing to interview witnesses," an HSPD press release on Tuesday said. "At this time, there is no one in custody in reference to this incident. If anyone has any information in reference to this incident, please contact Det. Mark Fallis at 501-321-6789 ext. 6720."

Anaya said information can be given anonymously. He added it has been concluded by HSPD the killer was likely someone who knew Watts and her son. Any information that can be provided by the public could be of help in shining light on the case.

Note: Anaya first said it had not been concluded the killer was likely someone who knew Watts and her son. He later said it had been concluded the killer was likely someone who knew them. The article was changed to match the updated information shortly after publication.
